COMPARISON · SEPTEMBER 2026

Best IT ticketing system with asset tracking

Best means the laptop is a record on the ticket, not a comment that says Sara's Mac. How that record got there is the rest of the purchase.

7 days, no card. Billed in BRL.

The best IT ticketing system with asset tracking is the one where the technician opens the request and already sees the device, who holds it, and what was installed. Movitera is an IT help desk with assets, passwords and AI in one platform. Discovery is agent-based: Movitera Link watches or probes the subnet where agents run. It is not a dedicated network scanner. Printers and switches without an agent still need a manual asset record.

Buyers searching this phrase are usually leaving a spreadsheet, or they are stitching Snipe-IT to a desk, or they were promised Lansweeper would fill the CMDB and the ticket tool would catch up. Those are three different architectures. Ranking them as if they were the same product is how you buy a scanner and still type the hostname into the ticket.

This page ranks the combined desk against Freshservice, GLPI, Snipe-IT plus a desk, and Lansweeper plus a desk. For how discovery actually works see How to automate IT asset inventory discovery. For the ticket-only list see Best IT ticketing system in 2026. For the wider umbrella see The 10 best IT management software tools in 2026.

THE LINK

Asset tracking is a join, not a module name

A ticketing system with asset tracking has to answer three questions on the same screen: who filed this, which device is it, how did we learn the device exists. Tools advertise Assets and still fail the join.

Four ways the join gets built. Only one of them is a single product for an in-house team that also holds passwords.

Desk plus inventory in one login
The ticket searches the requester's equipment. Movitera. Freshservice on the tiers that include ITAM. GLPI if you host it.
ITAM plus a desk you glue on
Snipe-IT for the laptop, Zendesk or a portal for the request. Two databases, a CSV in the middle, a comment for the asset tag.
Scanner plus a desk you glue on
Lansweeper knows the wire. The help desk does not, until someone builds the integration and keeps it alive.
Spreadsheet
The default. Accurate in January. Fiction in March. Linked to the ticket as a paste.

If the scanner is the requirement, buy a scanner and a desk and budget the glue. If the daily loop is a WhatsApp about a laptop, buy a desk that already holds the laptop. Do not expect Movitera to be Lansweeper.

METHOD

The five criteria

Set before the list, applied the same way to every tool.

  1. 01

Device on the ticket without a second tab

Search the requester's assets from the ticket. A comment is not a link.

  2. 02

    How discovery actually works

Agent on the machine, dedicated network scan, GLPI-style inventory, or a human with a spreadsheet. Name the mechanism.

  3. 03

    Unmanaged hardware

Printers, switches, anything that will never run an agent. Manual record, or a scanner that sees them.

  4. 04

    Password and remote session

Once you have the device, can you open the credential and a session without two more contracts?

  5. 05

    Who is billed

Per agent, per device, per inventoried unit. Free requesters. Currency.

THE LIST

Five stacks that put a device on a ticket

Two are one product. Three are a pair you will maintain.

  1. Movitera

    Origin: Brazil

    Best for
In-house IT that wants tickets, enrolled devices and passwords in one workspace, and will accept agent-based discovery.

Closure links equipment on the ticket. Inventory holds the owner and the status. Movitera Link inventories the machine it is installed on and can watch or probe that subnet (passive, active, or both) for devices not in inventory yet. Remote session sits on the same agent. Vault sits in the same login. Unmanaged printers and switches still need a manual record.

Asset search inside a ticket, listing laptop, printer, headset and server tagged with who filed it.Closure
Movitera vault credential list, showing owner, scope and rotation due date.Vault
Movitera equipment inventory, showing the holder and status of each asset.Inventory
Network discovery screen with networks and devices observed by Movitera Link agents.Discovery
Linking equipment to a ticket happens inside the ticket. The search already surfaces the requester's assets.
    What it delivers
    • Asset search inside the ticket
    • Link agent: hardware inventory, subnet discovery, remote session
    • Requesters free. First 50 Link devices included, then R$ 4 per device / month
    • Full seat R$ 129 / month, billed in BRL
    Where it stops
    • Billing is in Brazilian reais. Teams that need an invoice in another currency should check this before shortlisting.
    • Movitera Link has to be installed on a machine to inventory its hardware or open a remote session. Devices the agent does not see stay out of automatic discovery.
    • The catalogue of ready-made integrations is smaller than Atlassian's, Freshworks' or Zendesk's. Anything outside it goes through the API.
    • Movitera Link discovery is agent-based on the subnet where agents run. It is not Lansweeper-style dedicated network scanning of everything on the wire.
    • Printers and switches without an agent need a manual asset record.

How it bills Per-seat subscription billed in Brazilian reais, from R$ 9 to R$ 129 per month depending on access level. 7 days free, no card. Requesters who only file tickets do not consume a paid seat.

  2. Freshservice

    Origin: United States / India

    Best for
Companies that want ITIL process in the cloud and will pay per agent in dollars for assets on a higher tier.

Freshservice is the common SaaS pick when the RFP says tickets and assets. Asset management is real, and it usually sits above Starter. Discovery depth depends on the plan and on what you connect. It is a stronger process product than Movitera. It is not a password vault. See [Movitera vs Freshservice vs ManageEngine](/movitera-vs-freshservice-vs-manageengine).

    What it delivers
    • ITIL plus ITAM in one vendor
    • Polished requester portal
    • Asset records on the ticket when the tier includes them
    Where it stops
    • ITAM and discovery features often live on higher plans. Check the quote.
    • USD per agent.
    • Credentials are not a first-class vault.

How it bills Per agent per month in USD. Asset features often sit on Growth and above. Confirm the current Freshworks list.

  3. GLPI

    Origin: France

    Best for
Teams with a sysadmin who will host a CMDB and a ticket queue on their own server.

GLPI still does more ITAM in one install than most SaaS desks: agents, network inventory, CMDB, licences, tickets. The licence can be free. The PHP, the database and the plugins are yours. The portal is why a lot of teams leave. See [GLPI alternative](/glpi-alternative).

    What it delivers
    • Tickets and a real CMDB together
    • Network inventory in the core product
    • Community edition has no licence fee
    Where it stops
    • You maintain the server, upgrades and plugins.
    • End-user adoption follows the dated portal.
    • A credential vault is a plugin or a second product.

How it bills Community edition: free licence. GLPI Network cloud and support are paid.

  4. Snipe-IT plus a help desk

    Origin: United States

    Best for
Teams that already love Snipe-IT for checkout and will keep tickets somewhere else.

Snipe-IT is a strong open-source asset ledger: checkout, depreciation, labels. It is not a ticketing system. The join is an integration, a webhook or a paste. Fine if inventory is the job and tickets are light. Poor if the daily loop is a WhatsApp about a laptop. See [Snipe-IT vs Movitera Inventory](/snipe-it-vs-movitera-inventory).

    What it delivers
    • Excellent checkout and asset lifecycle
    • Self-host or Snipe-IT cloud
    • Labels and audits that finance understands
    Where it stops
    • Not a help desk. You buy or keep a second product for tickets.
    • Discovery is not Lansweeper. Imports and agents are a project.
    • No built-in IT password vault.

How it bills Self-host: free licence, you run it. Snipe-IT cloud is paid per asset or plan. The desk is extra.

  5. Lansweeper plus a help desk

    Origin: Belgium

    Best for
Teams that need a dedicated network inventory of unmanaged devices and will keep tickets in another tool.

Lansweeper is the scanner this page will not pretend to replace. It finds switches, printers and machines that never run your help-desk agent. The ticket still lives in Freshservice, Jira, ServiceNow or similar, unless you build the join. If the brief is 'see everything on the wire', start here. If the brief is 'this laptop on this ticket', it is more product than you need.

    What it delivers
    • Dedicated network scanning
    • Unmanaged infrastructure in the inventory
    • Mature ITAM reporting
    Where it stops
    • Not a help desk. The ticket is another contract.
    • Not a password vault.
    • You own the integration that puts a Lansweeper asset on a ticket.

How it bills Per asset or scanned unit, typically USD, quote-driven at volume. The desk is extra.

DECISION

Which of these fits you

Five situations. Discovery is the fork.

In-house IT, tickets on WhatsApp and email, laptops you can enroll with an agent, passwords in a shared file
Movitera. Manual records for the printers and switches the agent will not see.
You must inventory unmanaged network gear from a dedicated scan, and tickets can stay in another tool
Lansweeper plus a desk. Not Movitera Link.
You want a CMDB you host, and a sysadmin already exists
GLPI. Count the upgrade hours.
Checkout and depreciation are the job. Tickets are a side queue
Snipe-IT plus whatever desk you already have.
An audit wants ITIL change and a service catalogue, and someone will own the implementation
Freshservice. Confirm assets are on the tier you were quoted.
