Jira Service Management vs Movitera

JSM is the service desk for an Atlassian estate. Movitera is the help desk for a team that also has to hold the laptop and the password. Those are different purchases.

7 days, no card. Billed in BRL.

Jira Service Management vs Movitera is decided by the estate, not by a feature checklist. If the company already lives in Jira and Confluence, JSM wins. The incident already wants to become an issue. The knowledge base already has a home. Forcing Movitera into that stack is how you run two backlogs. If you are not an Atlassian shop, and the pain is tickets without the device and the credential, Movitera is the product that holds those records in one login.

Movitera is an IT help desk with assets, passwords and AI in one platform, billed in BRL, with requesters free. JSM is Atlassian's service desk: SLAs, a portal, a catalogue, and a native path into Jira Software. It is not a password vault. Hardware inventory is another SKU (Assets). WhatsApp is not why you buy it. Billing is per agent in USD.

This page is not a remake of The 10 best IT management software tools in 2026 and it is not Movitera vs Freshservice vs ManageEngine. Those lists exist. Here the only fork that matters is: are you already on Jira?

ESTATE

The ticket wants to go somewhere

A service desk is a routing decision. In an Atlassian company the ticket wants to become a Jira issue, a Confluence page, maybe a Bitbucket or GitHub commit. In an in-house IT team that does not live there, the ticket wants to become a device record and a credential reveal.

Buy the desk that matches where the work already goes.

Atlassian service desk
Jira Service Management. Portal, SLA, catalogue, issue link. Assets and vault are other products.
IT ops desk
Movitera. Ticket, enrolled asset, vault, wiki, WhatsApp. No native Jira issue.
Cloud ITSM without Atlassian
Freshservice. Process without requiring a Jira estate. Still USD, still no vault.
Project tool confusion
Jira Software is not a help desk. If the search started from project management, that is a different article: [Project management software](/project-management-software).

Do not rip out Jira SM because a vault demo looked tidy. Do not buy JSM as your first Atlassian product just to get a ticket queue. Both mistakes are common. Both are expensive.

METHOD

The five criteria

The first one usually decides the purchase.

  1. 01

    Are you already on Jira?

If yes, JSM wins unless you have a specific reason to run a second desk. If no, JSM is a platform decision, not a help-desk decision.

  2. 02

Vault and inventory in the same login

Movitera yes. JSM needs Assets as another piece and a vault as another vendor.

  3. 03

    WhatsApp and free requesters

Movitera: WhatsApp two-way on the company number, requesters free. JSM: portal and email, per-agent USD, Atlassian billing rules for help seekers.

  4. 04

    Issue and development trail

JSM yes. Movitera can turn work into Forge, which is not Jira. If engineering already closes incidents as issues, stay.

  5. 05

    Currency and implementation

BRL and a trial without a card, versus USD and an Atlassian admin who will actually configure the portal.

THE LIST

JSM, Movitera, and the usual neighbours

If you are already on Jira, stop at card two and go back to work.

  1. Movitera

    Origin: Brazil

    Best for
In-house IT that is not an Atlassian shop and needs the ticket, the laptop and the password in one workspace.

Closure, Inventory and Vault share a login. WhatsApp is a two-way channel on the company Meta number. AI triage sits in the seat. Forge exists for engineering work inside Movitera; it is not Jira Software and will not replace your issue tracker. If incidents must become Jira issues, this is the wrong desk.

Asset search inside a ticket, listing laptop, printer, headset and server tagged with who filed it.Closure
Movitera vault credential list, showing owner, scope and rotation due date.Vault
Movitera equipment inventory, showing the holder and status of each asset.Inventory
Network discovery screen with networks and devices observed by Movitera Link agents.Discovery
Linking equipment to a ticket happens inside the ticket. The search already surfaces the requester's assets.
    What it delivers
    • Vault and enrolled assets on the ticket
    • WhatsApp two-way, portal, free requesters
    • Seats from R$ 9 to R$ 129 / month, billed in BRL
    • 7 days free, no card. AI in the seat, no credit pack
    Where it stops
    • Billing is in Brazilian reais. Teams that need an invoice in another currency should check this before shortlisting.
    • Movitera Link has to be installed on a machine to inventory its hardware or open a remote session. Devices the agent does not see stay out of automatic discovery.
    • The catalogue of ready-made integrations is smaller than Atlassian's, Freshworks' or Zendesk's. Anything outside it goes through the API.
    • There is no native Jira issue link. If you already live in Jira, JSM wins.
    • No on-prem. Billing in BRL only.
    • Discovery is agent-based, not a dedicated network scanner.

How it bills Per-seat subscription billed in Brazilian reais, from R$ 9 to R$ 129 per month depending on access level. 7 days free, no card. Requesters who only file tickets do not consume a paid seat.

  2. Jira Service Management

    Origin: Australia

    Best for
Companies already living in Jira and Confluence. The honest default for that estate.

JSM is the right service desk when the ticket has to become an issue without a copy-paste. SLAs, a portal, a catalogue, automation, Confluence as the knowledge base. Assets (formerly Insight) is the CMDB-shaped add-on, not a laptop agent with remote session. Credentials are not a first-class vault. WhatsApp is not a first-class IT channel. USD per agent.

    What it delivers
    • Native Jira Software and Confluence
    • ITSM practices Atlassian already documents
    • Marketplace for the gaps
    Where it stops
    • A poor first Atlassian product. You inherit the platform, not just a queue.
    • Hardware inventory and passwords are other tools.
    • USD billing. Configuration is a dedicated admin job if you use the flexibility.

How it bills Per agent per month, USD, on Atlassian cloud plans, with a limited free tier for small teams. Assets and neighbouring products are separate lines. Confirm current Atlassian list.

  3. Freshservice

    Origin: United States / India

    Best for
Cloud ITIL when you are not an Atlassian shop and you will pay USD per agent.

The usual alternative when someone said Jira SM but nobody wants another Atlassian product. Stronger process than Movitera. Weaker vault. See [Movitera vs Freshservice vs ManageEngine](/movitera-vs-freshservice-vs-manageengine).

    What it delivers
    • ITIL without requiring Jira
    • Polished portal
    • Assets on higher tiers
    Where it stops
    • USD per agent.
    • No built-in password vault.
    • Not the issue trail JSM gives you for free in an Atlassian estate.

How it bills Per agent per month, USD. Confirm current Freshworks tiers.

  4. ManageEngine ServiceDesk Plus

    Origin: India

    Best for
ITSM plus ITAM, including teams that still need on-prem, and are not trying to become an Atlassian shop.

Heavier than Movitera. More ITAM than JSM without Assets. A real on-prem edition, which neither Movitera nor Jira Cloud will give you. Implementation is a project.

    What it delivers
    • On-prem option
    • Service desk plus assets
    • Audit reporting
    Where it stops
    • Project to land.
    • Usually USD, module-shaped.
    • Not Jira. Not a vault.

How it bills Edition and modules, commonly USD.

  5. ServiceNow

    Origin: United States

    Best for
Enterprises whose process graph has already outgrown JSM. Listed so SMEs can skip it.

If JSM feels small, ServiceNow is the usual next Atlassian-adjacent conversation, and it is usually the wrong one for a fifty-person company. See [ServiceNow for small business](/servicenow-for-small-business).

    What it delivers
    • The process graph enterprises already standardised on
    • ITOM and ITAM at a scale JSM will not match
    • Partner ecosystem
    Where it stops
    • Implementation is an organisation, not a tool.
    • Wrong size for most teams reading this page.
    • USD, quote-driven.

How it bills Quoted in USD. Not a public per-seat page for the full platform.

DECISION

Which of these fits you

The first question is whether Jira is already home.

Jira Software and Confluence are already how work moves. Incidents become issues
Jira Service Management. Movitera would be a second backlog.
No Atlassian estate. Tickets on WhatsApp and email, laptops on a spreadsheet, passwords in a shared file
Movitera. Do not buy JSM as your first Atlassian product to solve that.
Not on Jira, but you need documented ITIL and will pay USD
Freshservice. ManageEngine if the server must stay yours.
JSM is already in place and the only complaint is passwords and hardware
Keep JSM. Add Bitwarden and an inventory tool, or live with Assets. Replacing JSM with Movitera to get a vault is how you split the engineering trail.
