Create categories and custom fields
Categories group assets by type — Laptop, Monitor, Printer — and define their own fields, such as "RAM (GB)" or "Inches", which appear on each asset's form. Without at least one category, you can't create assets.
Create a category
- 1
Open `Categories` in the Inventory sidebar and click `Adicionar categoria` (Add category).
Creating categories is a
Gerenciador(Manager) action — see Who can do what. - 2
Give it a `Nome` (Name) and, if you want, a `Categoria pai` (Parent category).
For example, "Laptop". The default is "Nenhuma (nível superior)" (none — top level).
- 3
Add the `Campos personalizados` (Custom fields) with `Adicionar campo` (Add field).
Each field has a
Rótulo(Label — for example, "RAM (GB)"), aTipo(Type) —Texto(Text),Número(Number),Seleção(Select), orData(Date) — and theObrigatório(Required) switch. ForSeleção, add the options withAdicionar opção(Add option). - 4
Click `Criar categoria` (Create category).
resultToast "Categoria criada com sucesso" (Category created successfully).
Where custom fields appear
- When creating or editing an asset, in the
Campos da categoria(Category fields) section. - On the asset detail, inside the
Especificações(Specifications) card. - In imports, as columns marked "(custom)".
Changing an asset's category erases the values
When you edit an asset and switch its category, the custom fields are reset — values from the previous category don't carry over. Note down what you need before switching.
As with Locations, the Categories list shows only top-level categories — subcategories created with Categoria pai (Parent category) don't appear on it; find them through the command palette search. When deleting a category, the product warns: "Isso excluirá a categoria e pode afetar os itens nesta categoria." (this deletes the category and may affect the assets in it).
